Part of the joy of taking a walk in the woods this time of year is finding mixed flocks of birds. During a recent birding adventure I happened upon a single mixed flock that was composed of at least ten species of birds! As you might have expected, chickadees were at the heart of the flock. A quick tip, if you're out looking for birds in the winter: Look and listen for chickadees. If you can find the chickadees then you're likely to find a host of other bird species foraging with them.
To learn more I invite you to check out my latest nature video in which I talk about three of the birdy personalities likely to be found in mixed winter flocks, and why, in nature, there is strength in diversity.
Merry Christmas, and happy birding!
