Squirrels and Field Corn

While it seems to be neither a good year nor a bad year for acorns in north-central Pennsylvania, I've noticed that the gray squirrels who live along the Diahoga Trail in Athens are about hoarding as much field corn as possible. It was during a rainy day last week that I snapped these photos. Squirrels are resourceful; they have what it takes to do well in the absence of human influence, but they're certainly willing to take all the help they can get in preparation for the winter months that are soon to come.

What kind of food items are squirrels gathering near where you live?
