From the archives: Grasshopper sparrow (Rattler Rd. Tioga County, PA June 8, 2018)

Here is a post that I made one year ago almost to the day. The grasshopper sparrows are back and they sure are a joy to experience!

On this warm day in late Spring the sun shines bright over wide open fields containing sparsely distributed small pines as tall grass sways under the influence of a gentle breeze.

Grasshopper sparrows sing back and forth with buzzy and jumbled notes. Seeming to enjoy company, where there's one there's three. A curious male alights, perching atop a small shrub just long enough to get a view then its back into the concealment of the grass he calls home.
