Cultural nuances

Erin and I made the long trip back to Wellsboro today, traveling from North Carolina back to PA. We stopped at various points along the way to fill up the gas tank, to use the restrooms, and to get something to eat for lunch. I find it interesting to notice even subtle differences in the ways people relate to each other in different states and even in different communities. Some felt very warm and welcoming, and some others felt uncomfortable to me; and I can't help but wonder if the discomfort I may have felt in a particular place may have as much to do with my lack of familiarity with the place and the people who live there as anything else. Listen for the sake of understanding before speaking and ask questions when necessary seem to me a good rules to live by when traveling.

Tired from the long travel day.

More to come tomorrow.
